My students are creative, caring, and very energetic. Our classroom is a hands-on learning community. I work with children that are 4 and 5 years-old. Their ability to love learning excites me to find new and exciting ways to teach things to them. They love to learn about new things. They love to look about pictures and talk about them. They love to look and ask many questions about things they have seen on the playground. Our school is a preschool-third grade building and is part of one of the largest urban school districts in my state. All of the students attending in our district receive free lunch and are living at or below the poverty line.
My Project
This table and manipulative sets will help my students to learn through play. The most authentic learning happens when students are fully engaged in learning and it is their choice to learn. The table will change how things look and the students will see how colors can be created by mixing.
We have asked for a light table and translucent manipulatives to extend their thinking.
These items will allow them to create different scenarios and design different types of structures. They can use these items by themselves or with a group of peers to help build their social skills. These items are not something that they can easily access because of their income level. I love being able to put things into their hands to extend their thinking.
