Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a group of 27 transitional kindergarten students. They are a mix of English only speakers and English learner students. Our school is located in a low income neighborhood. Most of the parents in our neighborhood are working just to make ends meet; purchasing extra supplies for our classroom is out of the question.
Our classroom is our own little wonderland.
I make sure that my students feel safe, appreciated, and cared for. Many of the students that come to me are faced with daily struggles, that go to the extreme of seeing violence at home/outside of their home. They come to school, to my classroom, to feel loved, not just to get educated.
My Project
My students need a puppet theater and puppets so they can express their creativity through the use of puppets. My students love using puppets; their little minds have such a huge imagination. It's amazing what they can do with them. They are able to express themselves in English and in their own native language, Spanish.
I am positive that having a puppet theater will motivate them to come up with endless possibilities for presenting shows to their classmates.
They are so good at pretending to be me, can you imagine what a theater and more puppets will do for them?
