My Students
I am a kindergarten teacher at a Title I school in North Carolina.
My students are loveable, hardworking, and energetic.
They enjoy learning during whole group and small group instruction.
The majority of my student’s receive free or reduced lunch, some even participate in the weekend food bag program.
Most of my students live in public housing and face many challenges in their neighborhoods. That is why I would like to give them so many positive experiences in the classroom when they come to school.
My Project
With the many different reading and writing levels within my classroom, it is important that I have the materials to meet their needs. My students need materials that will strengthen their early literacy skills (reading and writing). These materials will teach students how to work in groups, share ideas and use higher order thinking skills.
Reading and writing are two skills that my students need to be proficient in, in order to be considered ready for first grade.
Mastery in letter identification and phonemic awareness will develop their skills in reading and writing.
The following materials such as an alphabet and phonemic awareness magnetic activity tray will allow my students identify and connect letters with sounds to help them begin to write. The table top pocket chart is a great tool that promotes collaborative learning with a partner.
The Carolina writing center along with the rectangular reading carpet provides my students with a comfortable working environment for reading and writing. These new materials will definitely excite and motivate my students. It will also provide them with balance literacy centers that will strengthen their early literacy skills and prepare them for first grade.
