This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is set in the middle of a bonded, connected community in Phoenix. We are a Title I school meaning most of our students come from low income households. Most students have gone through more traumatic events by the age of 12 than we as adults may ever experience. However, if you spend a day in my classroom you would never know some of these struggles my students have encountered. They come to school everyday with a smile and eagerness to learn. For most of them, school is an escape. It is a place they come to get away from what they may be going through at home, where they can be just kids.
I am inspired daily by their upbeat personalities, perseverance and resilience, not only in my students but also in our surrounding community!
Most families in our community have all attended our school. Even though most parents are busy, they still find time to be involved in school events and conferences. My students are fueled from love, patience and support and I'm working harder everyday to make sure I'm providing them with all!
My Project
All the items in this project support flexible seating options for my students and include a Flex-Space Independent Floor Work Space Bundle, an adjustable stool, and a Flex-Space Balance Ball Seat and Wobble Chair.
Research shows that flexible seating increases student engagement, motivation, and collaboration.
Having the abilities to choose their type of seating during work time gives students the power to take control of their learning. They learn how to see what works best for them and what will help them be most successful.
I want my students to be excited about learning by knowing they have control in choice on something that is usually controlled and chosen for them. The cushions will be a great option for students who need that wiggle to stay engaged while the adjustable stool will pair perfectly with my stand up desk from a previous project. The floor chairs and lap desks will be great for those students who need to an option for independent workspace.
Thank you in advance for helping to give my future leaders the option to take control of their learning environment!
