This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I can't find my homework worksheet. Can I get another one?" A simple request like this shouldn't be a problem for any teacher, but when you work at a school where the copiers available to teachers are often broken or out of ink, something as simple as how to get one extra copy can be a conundrum.
I teach a combination class that contains both second and third grade students.
Our school is located in a lower socioeconomic area. It is a Title 1 school, which means that the school receives aid from the government. This aid includes, but is not limited to, a free lunch program for all students. The school is currently a Program Improvement school. This means that the school has been designated as "low performing" within our district. Despite the school's current circumstances, I consider my students to be full of potential and very eager to learn. They just need the right resources and materials to help them meet their full potential.
My Project
I can not tell you how many times students misplace a worksheet, loose a piece of homework, or even leave a workbook at home. In order for that student to participate in the lesson or do his or her assignment, the teacher needs to be able to produce additional copies of all work at a moments notice. At our school teachers have one copier available to them. The copier is not near the classroom and it is often broken or out of ink.
In order to fulfill my students' needs I brought my personal all-in-one printer/copier to school, but after years of use by myself and my students, it finally made its last copy and can not be repaired. Having a printer with the ability to copy in the classroom has been so valuable to me and my students. I can't imaging going through the school year without one.
If you want to contribute to a classroom in a meaningful way, and know with 100% certainty that your donation will be used and appreciated daily, then this is the project for you.
Because of your generosity no child will have to hear the words, "Sorry sweetheart. I don't have any more copies," or "I ran out of copies; you'll have to share with someone else." Your help with this project will benefit students for years to come.
