My Kinders are Getting a Little Bit Buggy!

My Project

I am looking to obtain a variety of different insect kits so my students can observe the life cycle of different insects. Now that spring is coming, we are going to start a science unit on insects.

Students learn best by experiencing, so what better way to learn about bess beetles and how an ant makes a colony then by seeing it happen before their own eyes.

To help my students learn not only about the parts of an insect but also about their life cycles I am requesting a variety of insects for my class. I am asking for bess beetles because they are easy to observe with their large size and are also docile. This will allow them to observe the body parts as well as get an opportunity to handle them and see them up close. I also asked for the live ants. I am especially excited to get this because the students will observe the ants create their colonies by digging tunnels and observe how to ants work together to survive. Lastly, I am asking for the dead log kit because this will learn about what insects make a dead log their home and learn how they create an ecosystem. I did this project pre-pandemic and the students not only loved it but also learned a lot and I cannot wait to do it again with this class.
