My Kids Need Soap and Shoes!

My students need hygiene items, snacks, and sturdy, well-fitted shoes so they can come to school feeling clean, refreshed, and ready for the day.

My Students

I know everyone says this, but our students are truly spectacular. We are a large, public elementary school with kind staff and awesome kids, but many of these are kids who are have lived through very hard times.

Our school is beautifully diverse.

Our students speak 27 languages at home and come from all over the world. We are a community of achievers who overcome odds like poverty, homelessness, and trauma to become the best kids they can be. We're at an 80% free and reduced lunch rate.

My Project

A lot of kids come to school with shoes that don't fit and without having what they need to bathe at home to get ready for the day.

My students need to feel clean and refreshed so they are not embarrassed about how they look or smell, because kids shouldn't have to worry about that.

A lot of families can't afford soap, shampoo, and toothpaste all the time. We like to be able to provide these things at school so families can use limited income to buy other needed items, and so our students can concentrate on the school day, not worrying about what they have or don't have at home.

Having a stockpile of hygiene items means less stress for families and more support for kids. Having a variety of sneakers so kids can have shoes that fit their feet and aren't falling apart means they can participate in PE and walk to and from the bus without anxiety. And having snacks on hand means they won't need to pay attention to a grumbling stomach, they can pay attention to what they're learning!
