This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students always surprise me with how creative and kind they can be. I love to see them working together and encourage each other to overcome difficulties. My students are 6-12 graders with IEPs and varying skill levels. This year we are talking about the importance of leisure reading and finding a topic or genre that is enjoyable. Half of them have borrowed books from our class library and have even suggested books they would like to see on the shelves in the future.
My Project
Since we do not have a librarian on staff, my students have limited opportunities to find books that interest them. By creating a class library I want to foster a love for reading and encourage my students to improve their reading abilities. We currently are in need of furniture to help us build our library. A bench, bookcase, and round table will allow us to make an inviting space for the students where they can explore book that interest them as well as provide them with a comforting environment to hangout in.
