Hello All <3,

My Name is Nadia Curry and I am in my last year of my Master's of School Social Work program.

As I approach my final year of school, I've been reflecting on the legacy I'd like to leave behind—something that not only benefits the current students but also those who will follow. One idea that stands out is the creation of a sensory room, a space designed to support students with sensory processing needs.

A sensory room provides a calm and controlled environment where students can take a break from the overwhelming stimuli of the school day. It is equipped with tools and resources such as soft lighting, tactile objects, and calming sounds/smells that help students self-regulate and manage stress or anxiety. For students with special needs or those who simply just need a moment to reset, this room can be a game-changer, improving focus, behavior, and overall well-being. But it's not just for those with identified sensory needs—ANY STUDENT can benefit from having access to a space where they can recharge.

I believe this sensory room would be a meaningful addition to our school. It’s a chance to give back and ensure that everyone, regardless of their sensory needs, has the opportunity to thrive.
