This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever been around a group of people speaking a language that you don't understand? That is what it is like everyday for the majority of my students.

My students are a wonderful group of 1st and 2nd grade English Language Learners who really want to learn.

I currently have 20 students in my classroom, from 7 different countries (8 including the United States) and speak 9 different languages. Their parents left their respective countries to come to America to make their children's lives better. Our school is a high poverty school with approximately 87% of our students receiving free/reduced price lunch.

My Project

One of the best ways to learn a language is to become fully immersed in that language. I teach 4 hours a day of intense English immersion. The only time many of my students hear English is when they are listening to me. We need headphones with microphones so they are able to hear books on CD being read to them, to hear stories online and to be able to use the microphones to practice their own English.

This will make a difference because students will be able to hear the English language being spoken by different people.

They will hear the different types of expression and the fluency of readers. They will learn new vocabulary that they might not learn by my teaching. They will be able to use the microphones to read and record themselves, then be able to listen to themselves. It will help their overall English proficiency language.
