My students need one DVD on making masks with clay, one DVD on paper mosaics, 10 craft hair, and 60 paper mache/masks, to do a unit/project on mask making.
"Do you remember the first time you put on a mask?" Many of us wore masks on Halloween. Children hide behind masks in many ways. Sometimes the masks of their emotions are kept hidden. My students are learning about art and theater. They want to create masks on how they feel inside.
I teach art in a Title One School from Kindergarten to 5th Grade.
We are going to start theater and want to learn to make our own masks. I have very imaginative students, and they are a talkative bunch. I plan on using all their positive energy into a theater performance. I am starting a unit on masks, and want them to make a mask of themselves, and how they feel inside. I want them to show their emotions on their mask.
My Project
These resources including; how to make a clay mask, mosaic masks, paper mache masks to embellish, and hair to be glued on, would help us to do it. I want them to experience some DVDs so they can get to see work from other students, for many different ideas. Then I want to go into different emotions and what they look like on the face. I want my students to be passionate about this project.
Sometimes a child's emotion becomes hidden.
Sometimes a child is afraid to show how they truly feel. Hiding behind a mask, but also portraying their true feelings is not just an art. It's a form of art therapy, which can truly help my students. I'd rather them be acting out on a stage where it can be appreciated by all. This project would have a wonderful impact on my classes, exposing them to the excitement of theater and the arts. We would love it if you could help get this project funded.
