My English Language Learners Need Your Help!

Help me give my students a translation pen to support their learning of vocabulary, textbooks and other reading materials in a foreign language, which will enhance their overall language learning experience.

My Project

My kindergarten students are multilingual learners, studying both English and Chinese language throughout the year. Among my 25 students, half are English Language Learners (Ells). As I reflect on the students I have taught over the past seven years and the ones I will work with in the future, I recognize how challenging it is for ELLs to learn two new languages simultaneously without additional support. Fortunately, we living in a technology-driven world, and there are many tools available to assistant language learners. One such tool is the translation pen, which I believe will significantly help my students achieve their language learning goals.

I am excited about the multiple functions of the translation pen.

It is a powerful device capable of scanning, translating, and reading in 112 languages. This tool will enable my English Language Learners to quickly and easily look up the meaning of unfamiliar words or phrases while reading, helping them better understand text more readily, improve vocabulary acquisition, and enhance their overall language learning experience. The translation pen is especially valuable when students encounter challenging terms in textbooks or other materials. Additionally, it can be particularly beneficial for my students with dyslexia who have been facing difficulties with traditional reading methods.

As a teacher in a bilingual classroom, my goal is to help all my students become biliterate learners who can read and write in both English and their home language, Chinese. In just a few days, we will begin the second semester of the school year, during which my students will be required to read more challenging materials. I hope the translation pen will empower them to read with confidence, improving their reading comprehension, and further develop their language skills.
