My baby brother put my library book in the bath! I left it on the metro! My teacher took my library book and won't give it back to me! I already gave you that book back! I like it too much to give it back! The things a school librarian hears at the end of the school year about overdue books are very interesting.
We teach kids to be responsible for their books, but at the end of the day, we are working with children who sometimes lack the agency or the skills to protect those books to the degree that we wish.
In a Title I school, the last thing that we want to happen is to see parents receive a bill for a book or to see a student's borrowing rights impacted by a lost book. Every year, I look for creative ways to see those titles come back to us, and Donors Choose is an ideal platform from which to seek that help.
The list of books here are some of the most popular books in circulation that either didn't make it back to the library or made it back in less than stellar condition. When you donate to this project, you are helping us clear out that lost and overdue list so that every kid starts the new school year in the fall with a clean slate at the library!
