My class is made up of a wonderful group of students who come to school with bright smiles and positive attitudes. Since few attended preschool before coming to my class, we have a lot of ground to cover. Most of my students are learning English as a second language, making their first year in school challenging. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and Second Harvest Food Bank comes to our school each month to bring healthy fruits and vegetables to them.
How do you feel when your favorite magazine arrives in your mailbox?
How old were you when you got your first magazine? I want my students to experience reading interesting magazines. I know my students have not experienced that excitement yet! I would like to order a class set of Scholastic News Magazines called "My Big World with Clifford" for my class. Through this magazine, many connections are made with math (graphing, measuring, counting), science, and the world around them. It is a great way for my young ones to learn about the world. In addition to the magazine, there is an online component that includes videos and games that reinforce concepts taught through the magazine, as well as sight words, reading, and writing.
My students will get lots of practice reading these magazines! We start by reading the magazine in class. Students are excited to take the magazines home to share with their families. I want to light that spark in my students when it comes to reading, math, and science. This is just the right thing for them!
This will help my students learn in a fun way. With your help, my students next year will be able to read and take home this wonderful magazine. Thank you!
