This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Next year, I'll teach 8th-grade ELA for a 5th year! My Advisees will also be a new group and I'm excited to continue offering high-interest books to boost their literacy skills. I'll continue offering my Mindfulness & Art Enrichment as well.
I love having a folder available for each of my 8th graders.
I separate them by color, collect them on Fridays, review their DoNows for the week, and have them keep essential papers in there.
I want to add a few more titles of books to my classroom library based on what I've seen is popular and replace some well-used copies! As a school community, we are always trying to improve our independent reading culture.
As for my Mindfulness Enrichment class, it has been a process of learning how to integrate mindful activities into their lives. My students have loved painting, doing puzzles, journaling, trying out breath work and positive thinking, and using techniques like "glitter falls" to relax and regroup.
Also, I'm excited to improve my classroom space over the summer so that I feel fully ready next year. I added an Appreciation Tree a couple of years ago, and it's a highlight of their Fridays every two weeks. We put our post-it notes on there and every scholar gets to keep the ones written for them. I'm requesting materials to keep up these important routines and prepare everything for the school year.
