MXA Springboard Reading Program Incentives and Prizes

My Project

Our students attend an afterschool reading program called Springboard. We choose 45 of our student scholars who benefit from the phonics lessons, reading, and writing skills taught during program.

These snacks are used as incentives and prizes for students

to complete their daily literacy goals which include focusing and participating in phonics lessons, reading leveled readers appropriate for each students' reading ability, and reaching their daily goal and their monthly goal. Our goals as educators is to enhance their reading ability, increase the amount of time spent on reading, and promote the love of learning , as well as providing snacks as incentives to work harder to reach these goals.

Our scholars are special because they work hard to improve not only their academic skills, but their social and emotional growth as well. We have fun with our students in the afterschool reading program and reward their hard work, consistent attendance, and family participation in our family workshops. We strive for all our students and families to have learning - rich environments at home and illicit the love of reading throughout the community. Our students strive to be the best they can while living in a lower socio-economic neighborhood where diversity and racial equity is difficult to attain.
