Help me give my students which qualified for the Texas Mathematics and Science Coaches Association {TMSCA} State Competition the resources required to practice and be prepared for the State Meet in April by having their own Calculators.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am the TMSCA, Math Olympiad, and UIL Coach for my school; I coach all of the math academic events, as well as, Science and Bridge Building. The team has not had any new supplies specifically for the math competitors or as rewards for the hard work and countless hours after school practicing and on Saturdays competing or the State Qualifiers that are members of the Math teams.
Calculators on campus are several years old and have buttons that will not work correctly that are not used in Middle School 8th grade Math but absolutely necessary for the Math Calculator Competitions which covers up to Calculus II.
I would hate for our team to have a calculator malfunction at the state academic meet.
Lately, we have been sharing calculators during practice. That doesn't sound that bad, but these events are timed, so we need to get our pacing down for the contests. Not to mention I have repeatedly been told that the students can not take the campus/district issued calculators home with them to practice as needed.
The calculators that are on campus have begun to not work correctly when they are able to practice at school. These campus calculators are pretty old and are have been showing some wear and tear due to the high frequent use by several scholars throughout the day.
These new calculators will give students a chance to work with their own calculator everyday. It would be beneficial for the scholars to have their own personal calculators that they can use throughout high school and even college. These calculators will serve them with the best most updated resource for the upcoming State Math Competition for their Calculator Applications and Mathematics exams.
