My students need quality painting materials and other art supplies to produce high quality work. Materials in this project include canvas, watercolors, paintbrushes, drawing paper, gesso, acrylic pains, charcoal pencils and more.
Our school is located in Arkansas, a small town nestled between some larger areas of the state. The school and community are extremely supportive and the parents and town genuinely care about the education that their children are receiving. 52% of the almost 500 students at the High School are low-income, so we give our students as many opportunities as possible.
My students are more than deserving.
I was a rookie teacher last year, and these students have welcomed me with open arms. For a small town, the artistic talent and potential of my students seems unparalleled. I have expanded the program this year to offer more art classes, which include Art I, Art II, Art III, Art IV, AP Art, Art Appreciation, and 7/8th Grade Art classes.
Help us garnish support for supplies, technology, field trips, and other resources for special projects, so that these students can experience the opportunities that the Arts can offer.
My Project
Students spend a lot of time in the art room and we have even formed an after school club. It is an escape for them, a way to express themselves. My students deserve the opportunity to improve their artwork with high quality materials. For example, my students will get to use Bristol Board instead of cheaper drawing paper. This will allow them to create better and more varied artwork, without the paper crinkling and potentially ruining the craftsmanship of all of their hard work. With the addition of more canvases and paint, more students will be able to paint. Before, because of lack of supplies, painting with acrylics was only reserved for the upper level classes. Now my students in Art I and the 7th and 8th grade students will be able to get exposure to that medium, which will potentially spark an interest in Art.
I strive to create opportunities for each and every one of my students that are on par with those in the rest of the state and country.
These resources and supplies will allow me to achieve that goal.
