My students need more books that they are interested in! I am requesting 34 different books with varying topics of scary, funny, and mysterious. We also need a set of legos for indoor recess time.
My students are a vibrant group of third graders that come from a wide range of backgrounds and family situations. Our school provides a common ground for each of my students, where they are able to come to school ready to learn knowing they are walking into a safe and fun learning environment. My students spend about half of their day in this classroom and they need to have materials that make learning fun! Visuals are an essential piece of the learning community in the primary classroom.
My Project
I am an avid book reader and have always been! This year, I have been inspired by a book called "The Book Whisperer," and I have challenged my students to a 40 book challenge, which I am also going to complete. We spend each morning having silent reading time for 30-45 minutes, and it has already been life changing for my students. My students are actually upset when I tell them to come to a stopping point. Many students, who are reluctant readers, are now finding more enjoyment in reading as well. We spend time talking about book recommendations, and they are piling up books on the corner of their desks just waiting to start their next book.
