My students need white boards with musical staff and keyboard keys to learn how to write and interpret music

My Students
My students are learning to read music. I would like to challenge them to write music. These white boards will offer an engaging and grade level appropriate strategy.
My students need the challenge of writing music to stay engaged until they reach 5th grade when band becomes available to them.
My challenge is to find the resources to make music a reality. We are a rural, high-poverty, K-8 school with approximately 500 students. Our school is the only school in the district. Our ethnic diversity varies from year to year. We are predominately white and Hispanic. Our free and reduced lunch count is over 50% of the school population.
My Project
Music and math - this is what this project is about. My goal is to allow students to freely explore the measured beats and rhythms they have already learned and to try first hand to change to their own songs. How exciting this process will be. Students will be far less threatened in this high skilled task with the use of these wonderful whiteboards. For many, with the image of the keyboard on the whiteboard, the transition to a piano will be seamless.
In the beginning students will work in groups to compose short eight beat patterns.
Each group can then direct others to learn what they have composed. We will work these patterns together using different rhythm instruments to orchestrate a class composition. Working with music is so important for students. It empowers them. It shows them they are able to take on greater challenges.
