My Students
Songs stick in your head and you can't get them out. Many journeyed to California singing tales of their journey. From sea shanties to life on the trail on a wagon train, the establishment of songs memorialized the time period. My students love to sing. What better way to teach?
My students are amazing!
Our school is located in a rural part of central California in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Many of my students come from middle to low income families. My students come to school every day excited to learn something new and ready to take on a new challenge.
My Project
Historical events can be learned through music. Life during colonial times, experiences in covered wagons, and sea shanties which were once sung while sailing around The Cape all teach how life was during these periods of time. My students will use the song book, CD and speaker to learn about our nation's history from inception to present times. They will become familiar with songs that are timeless in our cultural heritage.
"Empowering Students Through Art" in this project involves a musical journey through history.
What better way for students to learn about the trials and tribulations of life long ago? Students who love to sing will learn, and students who love to learn will sing these engaging and historical songs of our past.
More than half of students from low‑income households
