My Project
For a decade, I was fortunate enough to incorporate live piano music into my classroom for academic instruction and classroom management. At my previous school, I sang and played as students came in each morning. We sang and played during daily calendar time. We created original operas with local musicians and composers through our partnership with SF Opera.
Today, at my current school, there are no pianos on campus.
As a musician and music lover, I’d love to bring the sounds of a live piano back into the classroom and our school.
Not only will this piano be used in the classroom, but it will also be a unique learning tool for my own development as a piano-playing classroom teacher. This particular Yamaha model (CSP series) offers an instructional program that helps maintain tempo and guidance for the notes.
Music is a tools for social emotional development. It truly brings people together and it will support all my students, several who have experienced personal traumas.
Music is an international language that requires no translation and tears down barriers. Opportunities to sing will benefit my refugee students and English learners.
I also intend to provide piano lessons to my students. A majority of our students are from low-income and refugee backgrounds. I want to provide opportunities for them to play after school and visualize themselves as pianists.
I hope you’ll join me in bringing more music into my elementary classroom and to our school. Thank you for your consideration.
