This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Welcome to my music classroom! I teach around 500 students ranging from prekindergarten through 5th grade. My classroom has a wide variety of students coming in, including students in Comprehensive Life Skills (CLS), resource, speech and language, physical therapy, occupational therapy as well as English Language Learners. My classroom is fully integrated and welcomes all students within the room. My students learn through singing, dancing, exploring, playing instruments, and develop within their social emotional skills (SEL). I believe that my students find my music class as a place they can feel safe to play and perform as well as be a subject that all students can excel in, regardless of their typical academic skills. My goals is to give my kiddos the love and appreciation of music and provide the tools they need in order to continue their music education outside of my classroom.

My Project

Students need the right tools to feel safe and open to create and inspire musical ideas. This project envelops ideas to give Social, Emotional well being, tools and manipulatives for musical growth and distancing tools as well so students may have their own learnings.

The stretchy bands allow for students to create movement together as a team building exercise and the different sizes allow for smaller and bigger groups since my class size varies.

The pop its also allow for mental stimulations while creating music such as rhythm tapping. The puppet is also another tool that can be used to help students who need a visual "friend." Providing egg shakers for each students to practice beat while having a cajon and shruturi to be used as musical background and guiding the creative project.

The Velcro spots help keep the students separated during independent work and in their areas, especially for the younger grades. The Sel poster will also be used to support student growth mind set as a visual they can rely on.
