Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 3rd grade students in a low-income area at a charter school who receives a lower amount of funding than public schools. My students enjoy learning music but our budget does not include musical supplies.

My third grade students love to groove to the music and learn about different genres and composers. Sadly, with funding cuts music is not a subject that my low-income students have access to. I have to buy any musical supplies and create lessons to make sure they have a solid musical foundation in order to play an instrument in middle school.

The World Music CD collection will introduce my students to the different types of music and cultural reasons music was used. The musical rug will be used to teach beat, rhythm and music notation to the students as they sit on the rug. The posters are a good resource for the students to refer to when they need a musical definition.

Your donation will give my class a great start into a musical journey that will last them a life time. Our next step, after implementing your donations, is to learn how to play the recorder and write music. Don't forget, long after the gifts of childhood are gone, the gifts of music still live on! :)
