I have 500 Kindergarten-5th grade students in Kansas. I try to find new and interesting ways to help my students learn using music because it is highly accessible for all students, especially those with physical and cognitive challenges.
My students love listening to music.
We listen to music to learn about music terms, styles, and genres. We even dance and learn about different cultures. My students benefit the most when they can listen to music examples instead of just discussing them.
My Project
My students need 30 music CDs of various styles and genres, e.g., American Folk, Broadway musicals, and lullabies, to develop our active listening skills with quality music examples. I will be loading the CDs onto our classroom iPods that we will be using every Friday for centers. This will benefit more than 500 students that pass through my door each week. This collection will help my students to learn about different music styles and genres while doing something fun, actively listening to music.
Your help will make it possible for my students to have a collection of CDs available that will help them learn about music.
The CDs will be a re-usable tool that will benefit a very large number of students. In ten years, the CDs will be enjoyed by more than 5,000 students!
More than a third of students from low‑income households
