This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school consists of over 600 students, in early transitional kindergarten to fifth grade. Almost 90% of our population is considered low income and qualifies for free lunch. Our school represents a wide range of cultures.

Most of my students have never attended school and are adapting to the academic demands of kindergarten.

I love finding lessons and appropriate resources that support them as English learners as well as build on their genuine curiosity. It is truly magical to see their faces light up with joy when they accomplish new tasks independently.

My Project

My kindergarten students love listening to music. They sing while they play, as they walk down the hallway and as they engage in reading, writing, and math activities. Singing has become their new language. I want to use their passion for music to support them in their learning of letter names/sounds, sight words, and number recognition. Currently, my students are all at different levels. I will use the headphones so that they can listen to the assigned songs based on what they need. Some students will get songs to help them identify letters while others might need songs to help them learn sight words.

The headphones will allow every child to listen to a unique song that will support them in learning math and reading foundational skills.
