My students need reeds and drumsticks. Some of my students are not able to purchase these items for themselves and having these allow them to stay current with the rest of the class.
We are the only middle school in our district. Most of our students come from low-income backgrounds. Band is an outlet for students to express themselves and learn a lifetime skill.
The band serves all grades at our school and is made up of a concert band and a pep band.
The pep band performs weekly for football and basketball games. The concert band performs twice a year for family and friends. We currently have around 250 students in the band.
My Project
My students come from a low-income area. Some students are not able to provide instruments or items used in class. This project will provide drum sticks and reeds for students who cannot afford to provide. Having quality drumsticks and reeds is a huge part of being successful in band. This also allows students not to fall behind in class because of financial constraints.
Currently, students are offered school owned instruments to use in class if they are not able to afford one.
Drumsticks and reeds for wood wind instruments are not currently offered. This project would allow the band to expand these items to students.
