Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Ten of my twenty students are between three to five years old. They have been identified with a special need and are on an Individual Education Plan. These needs include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Speech and Language delays, Cognitive Delays, difficulty with Fine and Gross Motor Skills, along with other associated diagnosis. The additional ten students are typically developing Pre-K students.
All of my students are learning how to work cooperatively in the following areas: social-emotional, language, and literacy, fine and gross motor skills, adaptive behavior, and cognitive growth.
The school population is made up of all cultures and economic situations. The school provides free breakfast to all students and has a free or reduced-price lunch program for those who qualify. The teachers and administration present safe, working classrooms for all students to grow and develop in a collaborative atmosphere.
My Project
Music is essential to the learning environment for all children. You might ask, Why? Did you know that children who line up movement with sound show improved pre-reading skills? Did you know that movement and music strengthens listening and attention skills? Did you know that It also improves phonological awareness and enriches print awareness? And finally, did you know that Music and movement refine auditory discrimination and increase auditory sequencing along with enriching vocabulary?
Teach children to love music and you will teach them more than you can imagine.
The materials requested will be used daily with my Pre-K students in both my online sessions (Zoomers) and my physical class (Roomers).
