This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When you think back on your kindergarten days... do you remember all the songs that you sang? Your teacher may have played the piano or the guitar while you sang. Today we have many Cd's and not enough time to look through them all during a lesson.

I teach 20 eager students in a self contained full day kindergarten program in a high-need community.

For the majority of my class, English is a second language. In order to enhance lessons and create well rounded learning experiences, I incorporate music into our daily routine.

My Project

An iPod will allow me to organize all of my music by themes and or subject so that I can easily find them. Many of the ideas in the book Bullying In Schools discuss how to recognize Bullying and how to deal with it. I have many songs that will enhance these ideas. But, I hardly use them due to time restrictions. With the songs at my finger tips, my students will learn more and have more time for discussion. Kindergarten students have a very short attention span and every minute counts! I can pre-set all the songs that I need for each subject according to my lesson plans and have the play list ready for the day.

Since we are expected to learn so much in Kindergarten, better organized music will add more learning to our day.

Music can teach so much! We can learn phonemic awareness, how to count, patterns, how to practice words and of course our sounds and letters. The possibilities are endless! Music is the best addition to any lesson plan.
