Our school is an A+ school, which means we use Arts Integrated Instruction. We serve students in grades Pre-K through sixth. They are a vibrant and excited group of students who love music!
Seventy-one percent of our student population is designated as low-income, with 15% special education, and 19% limited English proficiency.
For many students, the ability to read music and play an instrument opens up opportunities to pay for a college education, through grants and scholarships. The earlier they learn to play music, the bigger the benefit to their abilities!
My Project
The bucket and drum project utilizes music and movement to promote the physical, emotional, and social health of our students.
I want to promote physical activity through an engaging drumming program that invites students to become active movers and learners.
Students will participate in group drumming and dancing activities that will promote physical fitness through full-body engagement as well as emotional healing through the use of strong rhythmic patterns. Lessons will include concepts such as: balance, choreography, interval fitness, and improving cognitive function through beats.
Drumming has been shown to improve concentration, memory, and spatial-temporal awareness through the stimulation of Alpha waves in the brain.
More than half of students from low‑income households
