This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My music room is a space where students explore, sing, move, and express themselves through the joy of music. However, we are missing a key tool that would help bring structure and comfort to our lessons: a musical-themed rug that allows students to sit comfortably, move with purpose, and follow a routine.

Many of my students come from low-income households and face challenges that can make learning more difficult.

Having a designated, comfortable space to gather will help bring a sense of safety, consistency, and joy to their school day.

In addition to the gathering rug, we also need a second rug to go under our old drum set—a favorite among students! Right now, the drum set moves around while they’re trying to play it, making it hard for them to focus and play confidently. A sturdy rug underneath will help keep it in place and make drumming a safer and more enjoyable experience.

I am requesting two rugs for our music classroom. A large educational rug with a music theme, perfect for sitting in a circle, engaging in rhythm games, musical storytime, and movement activities. Additionally, a durable rug to go under our drum set to keep it from sliding while students play.

These rugs will be more than classroom items—they will be tools that support focus, creativity, cooperation, and joy.

The gathering rug will be our stage, our drum circle, our dance floor, and our safe space. The drum rug will help stabilize the instruments students are eager to play, giving them the confidence to explore rhythm and sound without frustration.

Students will grow not just musically, but also emotionally and socially, in a space designed to meet their needs.
