This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school General Music classroom is a place of creativity, sharing, and learning. In general music class, students develop foundation skills by performing on instruments, analyzing music, and deciphering music notation.

The students attend a metropolitan middle school in a large city in the Midwest.

Ninety-seven percent of the student population identifies as Hispanic, and ninety-eight percent of the student population is low income. My students are ambitious learners, excited to learn about the world around them, and eager to learn how to play musical instruments.

My Project

The resources I am requesting for this supply are chart paper and markers for a middle school general music class. The resources will primarily be used by students during the beginning portion of class when students share greetings with each other and news is shared about the class, school, or current events is shared. This sharing will build a strong sense of community, empathy, and build a better understanding of events in and outside our community. The resources will also be used in music class when students learn about music theory, history, and when performing on instruments.

Donations to this project will build students' sense of community as well as their understanding of music history and theory.

My general music students will begin to see themselves as a community and as musicians through this project.
