Music! Music! Where is the Music?

My students need an iPod Touch so that their teacher does not lose valuable teaching time flipping and searching through the music collection.

I teach a five year old kindergarten class in rural South Carolina. We are a Title One school with 93 % of the kindergarten students receiving free or reduced price lunches. All of our school funds have been frozen this year and things don't look any better for next year.

Kindergarten children learn things in a variety of ways, music being one of the ways they relate to and enjoy the most. The songs and rhymes of kindergarten are so very important to their early literacy foundation. We use music to learn so many things like: letters, sounds, rhyming, days of the week, months of the year, money, counting, shapes, etc. The list could go on and on. Due to the money situation in our district, our music teacher does not see kindergarten students. What a shame! I try to do the best I can to incorporate music throughout the day. It is so very time consuming to stop and search for a particular song or cd to use in the appropriate teaching moment.

If I had an iPod, I would be able to put all my music together and organize the songs into skill categories. This would be so helpful and time saving. The children would benefit from this by being able to listen and move more often to music that relates to our lessons.
