This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach grades 6-8 at a very low income school. I have five sections of general music during the day and then 2-3 days before school, I teach choir. There is a lot of interest in music among the students, but I do not have enough supplies to meet all of their individual needs.

Recently, due to poor funding and lack of supplies, I was asked to give my music storage room to a special needs child. I now have to store all of the music stands and various supplies in my classroom, that has little room for extra material. My students use the music stands every day for extended periods of time. When they are done, they now have to put them wherever there is room and a lot of the stands are hard to get at, or are getting damaged in the process. It would really be nice for students to have a place to put their stands without damage occurring or lack of order in general. We also have a few performances a year where our students or other piano players have to play in low lighting. The students would really benefit from an LED piano light that does not give off too much heat. We want them to be safe around the light, so we chose this specific light. This would eliminate the use of a flashlight held by a student and provide a more professional environment for our young musicians.

Our students would like a piano light to use and would benefit greatly from it. There was an event we were involved in last year where the student had to play piano in a low light area. We did not have a piano light and had to use a flash light, which has very inconsistent lighting. Our students would also benefit greatly from a music stand storage area. Currently, all of the stands are in various sections of the room and having them all in one area would save time and eliminate safety issues if we had a cart for the music stands.

You will make it possible for my students to perform and practice in a more organized environment. Adding a music cart for stands will also allow more time for teaching because of a more organized system. You will help ensure that my students are able to focus on music and performance, rather than where supplies are and worrying about damage of our little supply source.
