I have 20 kindergartners in my class and each one of them has a distinct personality and learning style. This creates a dynamic energy in the classroom that is full of curiosity and wonder.
A typical day in my classroom involves my students buzzing around learning as much as possible from one another.
They are full of enthusiasm and energy. Every hands-on experience that they can have is an opportunity for them to add to their knowledge, satisfy their curiosity, and breed new questions for them to explore.
My Project
With the instruments my students will get in tune with their internal rhythms and be able to connect music to their emotions and even math! We will use the instruments to connect to counting, patterns, and to the learning of jazz greats such as Duke Ellington. With the information included in the mindfulness, mediation, and yoga books I will be able to engage my students in moments of calm that will develop their sense of awareness and allow them to understand that stillness and peace are just as essential as outward energy and enthusiasm. This will, in turn, get them to tune in to what is happening inside of them in order to more productively and safely respond to external situations that they may not have immediate control of.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by providing my students with the resources and tools it takes to nurture not only more mindful students, but mindful citizens who come from a neighborhood that sometimes does not reflect the peace that we would want for young students.
This project will also give my students the chance to be musicians and get in touch with their very own rhythms!
