Music Mania: Special Education Pre-K Class Needs Music CDs

My students need 8 music CDs for physical movement activities, as well as a scarf set and parachute play book.

My Students

Music and movement experiences are vital to the early development of young children. Music can set the stage for getting excited about exercise, fitness, and healthy habits, and it can provide a calm backdrop for a peaceful, productive learning environment.

My special needs preschool students have been identified as having developmental delays.

They attend a public elementary school and range in age from 2-6 years old. My students are so eager to learn and are excited about coming to school. I want to continue building on their enthusiasm for learning! Our Title One school is located in a high-poverty area, and 77.6% of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged. Our school is also designated as a math, science, and technology magnet within our city.

My Project

My students want to move! I plan to use music to inspire them to exercise, and to help soothe them during times of transition or quiet activity. Having a selection of musical activities available will encourage kids to get physically active and calm at the appropriate times. With obesity rates rising, it is more important than ever to get kids active and doing movement in school. We will use the music with beanbags, parachutes, and colorful scarves to do fun games, dance, and aerobic movement. Quiet music will help us calm our bodies and prepare our minds for transitions and learning. We will use the parachute book for quick reference to games we can play with our parachute. Beautiful scarves in a rainbow of colors will inspire us to dance and move with the music.

With your help, we can prevent childhood obesity by providing children with opportunities to move and exercise indoors, and prepare them for learning academic skills.

You will make it possible for my students to have fun while improving their fitness, social, and gross motor skills, as well as increase their interest in learning. Together, we can make coming to school fun!
