Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a public kindergarten through eighth grade public school in a high poverty urban community in New Jersey. They love music class and are great musicians. Even though we don't have a budget for new materials, we find creative ways to make music together.
I am always searching for new books and artifacts to bring into the classroom so that my students can build a strong musical vocabulary.
I believe that the more they are exposed to, the better chance they have of becoming competent and skilled musicians.
My Project
These materials are intended for a wide for use among a wide range of students. I am requesting books, CDs and DVDs. Since I teach music to many different age levels, I am hoping to receive exciting and varied supplies that will captivate all of my students. I want them all to develop a relationship with music, and not just in music class but also as they explore the world around them. I believe music is a powerful force. My students can benefit from seeing how music is used in society to spread messages of peace and inclusive understanding. Today's society is intimidating, but I believe navigating it with the knowledge that music can make a difference will make an impact in the lives of my students.
