It's hard to come to school when you're stressed out. It's hard to learn when you have so much on your mind. My students spend a lot of time in school and need a place to feel safe, as well as learn. I've found soothing, calm music seems to help relax them.
I'm a special education teacher in a Title One School.
I'm teaching my students art and tying it with their major subjects. Some of my students come from shelters and live with foster care parents. They walk in the door depressed sometimes. I try to set a relaxing environment in my class so they can unwind, feel safe, and learn. I feel if I put on soothing music it sets a relaxing tone. I use it as part of my behavior modification, playing the music softly in the background. My students are from Pre-K through 5th Grade, and are learning disabled.
My Project
My students need one Audio CD Boom Box to play Cd's, One Set of Audio Speakers, and One CD of relaxing music to listen to. Teaching art with music works. It not only calms the students down, they get to learn some great composers and classical music. Art is tied into every subject, as well as music and theater. We use puppets in my class as well. Sometimes we play music and put on a puppet show from a book we have read.
We really hope that we can be able to listen to music.
Our last CD player and speakers broke down, and the students really miss it. It always relaxed them, and opened up their minds. We would be so grateful if somebody would help us get these resources. Thank you for all you do.
