This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are learning to play the recorder. They are so excited each time the instruments come out. Unfortunately, our time playing them is always cut short because a majority of the time is spent rifling through the folders looking for the music sheets. I want to change all of that.

My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving kids the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere.

My 5th grade class is in a high-need, low income public school, nestled in the heart of Southern California. Each of the students in my class is a vibrant, excited learner, who looks for the next opportunity to gain knowledge.

My Project

With this project, I am requesting binders and music staff notebooks for each of my students. By hole punching the music sheets, the students will have easy access to the correct notes while we are playing the songs. They will be able to easily flip through the pages, allowing for smooth flow of the music and a great experience for both my students and the people we invite to our (eventual) concerts. I also am planning to teach them to write music. This is where the staff paper comes in. The will use the paper to write the notes, which they will then play on their recorders.

Your donation to this project will enable the students to both maximize their music time, and keep all of their papers organized so that music is more of a learning time, then a "search for your paper" time.

With the binders and staff paper, you will give the students the tools they need to gain a deep appreciation of music, as well as enjoy the new craft they are learning.
