This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My scholars are just awesome. They are 80 kindergartners and 80 first graders.
The population is 80% Hispanic and 20% mixed race.
They love music, especially hands-on instrumentation. For many, this is their first time in school. I think they are adjusting very well.
I know the importance of having the arts in a child's life and how they can benefit from this type of positive exposure. I look forward to being able to teach the scholars how to read music and play an instrument.
My Project
Many people wish they can play an instrument. Well, I am working to build the music department at this small charter school and give our kindergarten and first graders an opportunity to learn how to read music as well as play an instrument. We will begin with the basics and work our way to recorders. I have a total of 160 scholars. They will have to share the instruments until our program and supplies grow. I plan on letting the scholars use the instruments to play along with their class songs.
