My Students
I teach around 600 wonderful kids in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Every student gets to come to music once a week, which is never enough! I frequently hear, "It's time to leave already?" from my kids at the end of music class.
Music is something that reaches every single child in our school, regardless of their background or ability level.
My school is a highly impacted, Title I school serving kindergarten through fifth grade students. My kids come from all kinds of backgrounds, and we are proud of our diverse population representing over 20 countries.
My Project
Every time my students walk into my room, their attention is immediately drawn to the piano. They want to play, explore and create! For this reason, I would like to create a mini-keyboard lab for my kindergarten through 5th grade students.
Oftentimes the piano is the first instrument kids can identify, but very few ever have the opportunity to actually play it.
These keyboards are a smaller size, which is perfect for small, exploring hands. With 5 keyboards and a headphone splitter for each, I can have up to 4 students on each keyboard, creating and collaborating together. I also plan on using them for center work and projects as each student can create their own unique composition using color coordinated alphabet stickers for each key.
A lot of my kids don't have access to instruments outside of my classroom. For a child, the piano is usually viewed as an unreachable instrument as they are often large and expensive. I want to make sure that all of my kids have access to a keyboard instrument in my classroom so that they can continue to expand their musical world!
