This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
One of my fondest memories of school is learning how to play the recorder. We would sit and play, moving with the rhythm, enjoying the melodies, and loving school. I want my students to enjoy those same memories by learning how to read and play music using the simple, yet exciting recorder.
My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving kids the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere.
My 5th grade class is in a high-need, low income public school, nestled in the heart of Southern California. Each of the students in my class is a vibrant, excited learner, who looks for the next opportunity to gain knowledge.
My Project
Music is such an important part of education, yet for one reason or another, we don't teach it as whole heartedly as we should. I want to change that. With the recorders and music books, I want to put music in the hands of each of my students. Many of my students have never played a musical instrument before. They think it is something only "other kids" get to do. With the recorders as well as musical books on audio cd and cd player, I want to inspire my students and make them realize that they too can learn to play a musical instrument.
With the materials requested, I want to create lifelong music lovers.
I want to inspire them to keep music around them, whether it be in the form of an instrument, CDs, on the radio, or attending a concert. I want my students to love and appreciate music. Learning to play the recorder is a first step in creating music aficionados!
