This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As students are finally adjusting back to a normal life and "new norms" post COVID, I have seen firsthand the importance of supporting students' mental and emotional health.

While a learning gap was unfortunately generated as a result of students being home for so long, I am finding that in addition to catching them up from an academic standpoint, there is also a need to promote their maturity, and encourage their mental health and happiness.

With the use of portable speaker, I want to be able to create a more positive and fun classroom environment where students can listen to music as they work on group projects or SEL activities. I plan to have students in each class create their own playlist of favorite songs that I can play when we are doing light work in the classroom. This will not only make learning more fun, but I feel it will help them to feel a greater sense of community within the classroom and to see that their voices are heard and their contributions matter.

The ink will allow me to print student art and reflection projects that are geared towards supporting their emotional well being and self confidence. I want to give students opportunities to share about themselves in a comfortable, safe, light and pressure-free space. Additionally, many students are coming to school with masks and overwhelmed by the number of their peers getting the Flu, COVID and RSV. As many of my students congregate in spaces on the floor in the classroom, I want to ensure these spaces are clean and students can feel comfortable collaborating.
