This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you were in kindergarten? Did you listen to music or read along books? My students need a boombox and writing supplies to discover the magic in music & the visual arts.

I teach thirteen enthusiastic kindergarteners who love to learn.

They attend an inner city Chicago public school. They face many challenges at this young age from living in a high poverty neighborhood to a gang infested environment. For many this is their first school experience. Despite these challenges they are eager to learn and tell their wonderful stories. As their teacher I would like to give them positive learning experiences in a safe environment.

My Project

I'm requesting a listening center and two read along books. They will use the listening center to read along to their favorite stories such as Five Little Monkeys and The Dinosaur Who Lived in My Backyard. They will improve their reading fluency and enjoy listening to these wonderful stories. I'm also requesting resources such as magic boards, giant tracing letters, tracing numbers, wipe off pockets and dry erase markers. They will learn the alphabet and numbers while tracing and developing their fine-motor skills. These resources will be used during center time. The learning centers will be more than just an engaging way to teach and learn. They will offer a variety of activities that draw on different strengths and give all students a chance to learn in a way that best suits them.
