Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school in Southern California. Most of my students come from low-income families and many do not stay at the same school for more than a year. These students are shuffled from one school to the next due to overflow and busing restrictions. This contributes to an unbalanced education. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about those circumstances.
However, I can give these young learners a thirst for knowledge and the ability to use logic and communication to find information for themselves.
These students are mostly English language learners who crave and require countless opportunities each day to hear and use English with their peers. My students are impressionable and eager. I try to take advantage of that every day!
My Project
I currently teach music twice a week to three classes. This year, I have a student who only has one hand. All of my instruments require two hands such as rhythm sticks, cymbals, etc.
I am determined to provide access to music for all students, including those with physical challenges.
Please help me give this student equal access to the musical experience that so many other students are able to have.
I also would like to extend these classes to our special education classes on campus. There are several students who would benefit greatly by engaging in this type of educational strategy!
