Music Education

My Students

"What time is it? How much longer until lunch?" This is a daily question asked in my classroom. The students of our inner city school have immigrant parents of a low socioeconomic status.

Parents often work two jobs so students are often latchkey kids or watched by grandparents.

They are English Language Learners. We are a Title I school. All of our students qualify for the free meal program. Many of my students are struggling to learn and understand the English language.

My Project

My students are constantly working on music and dance projects that require their music to be heard. Currently, we have smaller wireless speakers, but we do not have a louder one that we can use for small performances and rehearsals. Since dance is so project-based, my students are often times working in groups where they need the music to be audible for all of the dancers. Our current small speakers do not provide enough sound, especially when dancers are working on their dances outside of the classroom.

Having a new speaker in the classroom will make a vast difference in the way that students can rehearse both during class and after school.

The wireless speakers will help my students better hear all the story videos and other education videos that I may be showing. I will also be able to connect my ipod to the speakers so that my students can hear children songs that I have downloaded for them. We will be able to do a lot of singing and dancing.
