I'm moving in to a new classroom this school year, next door to my colleague, the OTHER music teacher- yes, there are two music teachers working full time at our school! It's great that we'll be not only in the same building, but next door to each other this year- makes collaboration a lot easier- but I do need to prepare for trying to teach preschool, kindergarten, first, and second grade over the decibels of the new school band. I will use the portable PA system and the wireless mic set to project my voice in the classroom, and have the students sing in small groups into the microphones so that they can hear themselves.
My students will benefit from the audio equipment by being able to hear me, and especially being able to hear my speaking, singing, and whisper voice, not my shouting voice.
They will likewise benefit from being able to hear their own singing voices, and not learning that shouting is the only way to be heard in music class.
