My Students
My school is a charter school located in North Minneapolis. The school serves students who receive 100% free and reduced-price lunch. Students come to school each day eager to learn and ready to work hard. I teach the 4th-grade girls class, 4th grade math, 4th grade science and now music! Being in an all-girls or all-boys class setting allows for classes to become tight-knit, more like a family and our scholars form a strong sisterhood and brotherhood.
I want my scholars to leave each day feeling empowered, enabled, and engaged in their learning and their well rounded education experience.
My Project
The teachers, families and scholars at this school are excited to have the opportunity for students to experience the arts within their school day once again. A few of us classroom teachers have stepped up to offer our time and talents to teach music, art & theater with a $0 budget. I have to be creative with how I will teach grades K-5 with limited resources, but it is not an impossible task. I am excited to have our students exposed to read musical instruments and to give them a taste of various was music can be apart of their lives as they grow older.
Students will learn how to play keyboards, recorders, create different types of beats with the different beat making instruments and they will create performances with their instruments to share with their peers and the entire school.
I also plan to use the ipad charging station for ipads with music apps for students to include technology and music instruction. They will have a well rounded and fulfilling music class experience with these instruments on hand.
