My Students

"Music is everything, and everything is music," is the phrase I use in my classroom. It tells us that music is present all around us and involved in our daily lives at every level.

My students attend a public charter school.

We focus our teachings on real-world, authentic experiences. Many of the students in my system have not had the fortune of a music class--and they come to me in the 6th grade. These students have dreams of becoming singers, playing the piano, and other instruments. They are eager to learn music and quickly grow tired of the only instrument our classroom holds: paint buckets (which I purchased personally).

My Project

My students need rhythm instruments and melody instruments. For many, it is understood fact that participation in any music program improves learning, critical thinking, and cooperation and communication skills. Music is a necessary creative outlet for our children and our society. With these resources I may expand their knowledge and human experience. Students will not only discover how to productively communicate with each other, but will gain higher-order thinking skills that will enable future success in academics, social needs, and their adult life.

Our school wants a music program--eventually vocal and instrumental ensembles--but we cannot do this alone.

With your help today, you can touch the soul of an inner-city child--many whose life has only been met with strain and hardship. Music gives us a chance to express our pleasures, disappointments, feelings, and thoughts. Music gives them opportunity that they may otherwise not possess. Music does charm our souls and asks us to strive for the highest endeavors.
