My Students
MRSD serves the small, neighboring rural farming communities of Mott and Regent in southwest North Dakota. Our students are active in a wide variety of activities. Many of our students not only participate in athletics, music, and other school activities, but also are integral in the family farm operations which support their families and our community.
One of the most impressive attributes of our school is how all our kids, from Kindergarten to 12th grade are part of our Wildfire family.
Our school from elementary to high school is housed under one roof, fostering strong bonds and a sense of belonging and accountability with each other.
My Project
Providing options for students who have a special interest or who maybe haven't found their niche yet, is so valuable to the students' seemingly finite world, and thus benefits our infinite future. We currently only offer the traditional Wind band instruments, which are perfect for some students. Other students want to expand their musical experience, and still others are seduced by the desire to be the rock sensation.
Together, you and I can put guitars into the hands of not only future rock gods, but also the guitarist who will volunteer at Senior Citizen centers and Long Term Care facilities.
Guitar is one of the few instruments you can start playing real songs in only a few weeks. Guitar lends itself to learning music theory in a non-threatening format, perhaps training the next Bob Dylan. And, unlike a lot of instruments, guitar playing is something a musician can do well into their retirement years.
Our guitar program will be a part of our Jr. High General Music classes, our only required music class, as well as including an after school ensemble class. These guitars will be used by every 7th and 8th grader in our district! Our after school program will be available for interested students in grades 7 - 12. I plan to utilize the easy transport of guitars to do outreach in our community as well.
